Derriford Hospital Chaplaincy – weekend volunteers

Weekend Volunteers needed at Derriford Hospital Chaplaincy

The Department of Pastoral & Spiritual Care (Chaplaincy) at Derriford Hospital welcomes new weekend volunteers to help patients attend Chapel each Sunday.

This ministry facilitates the transport and accompaniment of patients in wheelchairs or beds from wards to the chapel on Sunday mornings for a 9.15am service, staying with them for the service and then taking them back to the wards afterwards.  The whole process lasts about 2 hours from 8.30 – 10.30am once every 4 weeks, as a member of one of the 4 weekend teams.  This is a vital and valuable role enabling patients who are unable to attend their own churches or who perhaps are seeking some peace and support, to attend a short worship service. There is no need for our volunteers to belong to any church or faith community. A regular commitment, a willingness to work in a team and a care of others is the most important thing. If you are able to offer or would simply like to find out further what’s  involved, please contact Revd. Jan Collis on 01752 792313– email  This role will be subject to an enhanced DBS clearance, occupational health checks and 2 references. Full training will be given.

With many thanks
