PLYMOUTH CHURCHES GREEN ACTION GROUP

PLYMOUTH CHURCHES GREEN ACTION GROUP

We urgently need to form a steering group – people to join us and plan what we need to do to achieve our vision and aims for the Christian contribution to Plymouth Environment.
Our Vision
Our vision is for churches of all denominations in and around Plymouth to care for creation in five key areas of church life:
v   Worship and Teaching,
v   Building Management
v   Land Management,
v   Community and Global Engagement,
v   Lifestyle
As an integral part of loving their neighbours and following God faithfully.

Aims
To resource and encourage churches and individuals to engage with making caring for God’s creation (‘Our Common Home’) more a part of normal church life and personal Christian discipleship.

Achievable Outcomes
Shared information to ensure churches are fully resourced
Established forum to address local issues such as low carbon, open spaces, marine environment, built environment, food and waste, protecting heritage
Churches actively involved with Eco Church and Living Churchyards schemes
Churches celebrating God’s Creation in teaching and worship
But what we need to do to achieve this is still to be planned and therefore we ask you to prayerfully consider if you can help. It need not be an onerous task – we won’t need to meet too often, but with the right people in place we should be able to work towards achieving our goals of working together for the sake of His creation.
Ideally we would be looking for another 3 or 4 people to join with us; we need people who are passionate about environmental issues, who can help us by widening our own perspective – think about your own personal interests and background, your –  experience and how you may be able to complement our interests and experience – diversity is as important as a shared vision. It would be even better if we had a range of churches / demoninations represented.
If you would like consider joining us, or even want to know a bit more then please do just email us…. we would love to hear from you.

PS Many of you will have heard the fantastic news that Plymouth has achieved Plastic Free Coastline status; we are now working towards becoming a plastic free city. There is a pledge that we are encouraging all community groups, congregations and individuals to complete…. please have a look and see what you are doing or could do to help reduce single-use plastic in your life / church / workplace
