The West Country Housing association is an umbrella organisation offering supported living. It covers :-

  • Plymouth Mother and Baby Unit
  • Plymouth House
  • Greenbank Mental Health
  • Plymouth Floating Support
  • Plymouth Drug and Alcohol Project

All services have the same purpose

It all began when 2 women got together to pray in 1955 about the needs in this city. The YWCA hostel came into being. There have always been Christians working there.

There are 4 levels of accommodation for young and vulnerable people. Stage 1 - Emergency or temporary accommodation that includes supported lodgings, hostels and support for the homeless or those living in temporary accommodation to stage 4 which is a moving on support service for young people living independently. Jill and Wendy work at stage 2.

People needing a high level of support. Providing a safe, supportive and tolerant environment in which vulnerable people with complex multiple support needs can develop skills to enable independent living and also to address other issues which may prevent / hinder the continuation of their independent living.

Despite funding cuts all around them from April this year all contracts have been renewed for another 3 years. WCH has a good reputation and work together with other agencies who provide the specialist help when needed.

There are many success stories to share about their work.

Please pray

  • for the staff team
  • For their protection in Health and relationships
  • That they would be able to manage their workload.
  • For the Christians to influence the work place and share Jesus by being salt and light.
  • Staff to have wisdom when working with vulnerable clients adhering to work place boundaries.
  • That the staff would have a passion to make a difference.
  • Pray that vital services continue to receive funding to support the most vulnerable.
  • for protection for those waiting for a room / flat, as the waiting list for these services is increasing.
  • For a greater working together with other agencies that ensures that the client is at the centre.
  • That these services will provide a supportive, tolerant environment for challenging vulnerable people to enable them to develop their ability to live independently.
