The Chaplaincy exists for everyone, staff or student, faith or none. There is a welcoming, friendly team of chaplains from various backgrounds and Faith Advisors for the 6 main religions. During term time they are available from 10am to 4 pm to meet folk in a comfortable lounge with free tea and coffee! There is a quiet room for prayer, reflection, meditation and thinking space. There is also an Islamic Prayer Room.

Right now, so close to the beginning of term Freshers’ Activities have been organised in September in various venues giving students the opportunity to meet and make new friends.

For some youngsters it is a huge step to leave home and come away to university where they may know no one. For those with faith it can be like coming into a hostile environment where they are encountered by different beliefs, or none, and find their friends living a completely different lifestyle to the one they enjoyed at home.

Prayer points:

  • Thank God for the existence of the chaplaincy and its warm welcome to all.
  • Pray for the new members of the chaplaincy who take the place of retiring experienced chaplains – that they may find their feet quickly, be able to hear God and carry his anointing. For inspiration and encouragement for the Team that they may know they are doing a worthwhile job.
  • Pray for them in their reaching out to folk, especially those who are not Christians. that they may be able to find ways to talk with those with little English and answer their questions.
  • For the Freshers’ events – for God’s presence at them, for people to come, for relationships to be forged.
  • For all the students coming to University – that Plymouth may turn out to be a welcoming, inspiring place for them and a helpful springboard to their future
  • For the University Authorities – for wisdom in their decisions in these difficult days.
  • For Majohns where there was a fire in the chapel – for restoration work to go on speedily
