Pray Plymouth: Dartmoor Prison
Wednesday 5th October 2011
Alpha Courses – Anwen
Over the years we have prayed for the prison and seen God do some exciting things! Quite a bit of change: Bill Birdwood the senior chaplain has left and been replaced by Louise who is working with the multi-faith chaplaincy. The No. 1 governor has gone and a temporary replacement has come. Numbers in Dartmoor have fallen to less than 500 but plans are afoot to move more prisoners in which means changing the make-up of prisoners in the various wings.
Alpha continues in two wings but not in the third at the moment as terrorist clearance is now necessary which the volunteers do not have. In addition no speakers can go in as they are going to need terrorist clearance as well.
Points for prayer:
- that in the midst of change the Word of God will continue to go forth under God’s anointing and that many will be mightily helped and changed lives result
- For a new governor of God’s choice and for the relocating of prisoners to be done sensitively, with wisdom and for peace to reign. For prison officers that are being moved back or in to Dartmoor to work with the increased numbers, that they will accept the change and fit in well
-
- For Anwen and her team of volunteers – that they will be encouraged and be a great encouragement. For wisdom in handling the group discussions and for a constant supply of compassion and God’s love for the prisoners
- For Louise in her chaplaincy role – again for anointing and encouragement and wisdom in working with the other chaplains of differing faiths.
- for the terrorist clearance to go ahead swiftly so that the work is not slowed down
- There is to be another prison inspection soon. Pray for a good outcome
- Prisoner John has died recently. Please pray for his family, especially his mother
- As always, the needs of released prisoners is still a big issue and one that needs the involvement of the Christian community.
